I/ITSEC is proud to announce Robert “Bob” Sottilare, Ph.D. as the I/ITSEC 2025 Fellow. This recognition honors his four decades of contributions to distributed simulation, behavior modeling, and intelligent training solutions across government, industry, and academia. Widely published with over 300 papers and nearly 3,500 citations, his work has significantly advanced the quality and efficiency of warfighter training. Currently Vice President of Training & Simulation Solutions at Soar Technology, an Accelint Company, Dr. Sottilare’s career includes leadership roles with both Navy and Army simulation organizations. He is the founding director of the Army’s Simulation & Training Technology Center (STTC), founding chair of the IEEE Adaptive Instructional Systems (AIS) Consortium and Standards Working Group, and creator of the Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring (GIFT). His service extends to NATO, IEEE, I/ITSEC leadership, and STEM outreach. Dr. Sottilare has been recognized with multiple lifetime achievement awards, the U.S. Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award, and holds a U.S. patent for a high-resolution head-mounted display. He considers his greatest honors his roles as husband, father, and grandfather.
