Biography

Gregory McGowin is a PhD student in Modeling and Simulation program at UCF. He holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Master of Science in Modeling and Simulation from UCF. His current research focuses on Immersive Virtual Reality and its application in the domain of the learning sciences, grounded in the philosophical and cognitive sciences theory of embodied, enactive, embedded, and extended (i.e., 4E) cognition. He has participated in approximately 15 scholarly papers or presentations, predominately as first author. Topics include a range of multi-disciplinary issues such as virtual reality, metacognition, multimedia, gamification and serious games, and vehicle (automobile, motorcycle, bicycle) safety. Additionally, while an undergraduate he was trained in the use of and collection of psychophysiological systems and measures. Moreover, he has several years of experience in the workforce using his knowledge of human systems to help make vehicles safer through advanced automotive research at Virginia Tech. In total, Mr. McGowin has been involved with approximately two dozen human subjects studies between his education and work experience.
