David Urban is a former Air Force pilot with over a decade of flight experience in both the KC-135 tanker and as an instructor pilot (IP) in the T-6. The last six years of his Air Force career were at Vance AFB two years of which as flight commander for all Vance preflight academic and simulator training. The Air Force transitioned from its legacy pilot training program into Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) 2.5 and beyond during this time. He was one of the two primary authors of the Vance AFB Innovation Flight syllabus, which led to a remote staff position for 19th Air Force. There he co-authored the first two UPT 2.5 syllabi. His primary responsibility was adapting the preflight curriculum to bring VR simulators into training. He served concurrently as lead 19AF liaison with industry partners developing a new learning management system for pilot training. Since leaving the Air Force in 2022, he has continued support of 19AF’s Pilot Training Transformation efforts as a pilot training Subject Matter Expert for Vertex Solutions.
