John J. Graybeal is an Engineering Psychologist at the U.S. Army DEVCOM C5ISR Center Research and Technology Integration Directorate (RTI). He received his Ph.D. in Psychology in 2017 from George Mason University, with a concentration in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience. Since 2017, he has worked at RTI, where he evaluates human performance with a wide range of sensor imagery and emerging technologies. He regularly conducts research with Soldiers and other human subjects using visual tasks (e.g., object detection, object identification) with both real and simulated imagery. A large portion of his research focuses on human performance with augmented reality systems. In 2019, he received both the NATO Modelling and Simulation Group’s Young Scientist Award and the 2019 I/ITSEC Best Paper Award for his simulations of human performance with imperfect augmented reality systems. Dr. Graybeal is also responsible for leading efforts to develop innovative human experimental methodologies. His other research projects and interests involve sustained attention, situational awareness, effective teaching and training, and studies aimed at improving experimental methodologies.
