Biography

Dr. Nichola Lubold (she/her) is a Lead Research Scientist in the Advanced Technology Human Centered Systems Group at Honeywell Aerospace. She received her doctorate in computer science from Arizona State University in 2018 and since receiving her PhD, Dr. Lubold has served as the Principal Investigator for several programs with DARPA, the Department of Defense, and the FAA. Her work focuses on bridging the gap between applications of intelligent technology and what is known of human behavior from psychology, physiology, and cognition to enable more natural, productive, and safe human-machine interactions that can optimize human performance and increase learning. This is achieved through unique sensors, applications of natural language processing, signal processing, and machine learning. The results of this work have led to 23 publications, 2 awarded patents, 6 patent applications pending with the U.S. patent office, and updates to industry standards. In addition, Dr. Lubold has been recognized with awards and fellowships from NCWIT, Google, and Arizona State University. She also leads the Crew Interface Technology Council at Honeywell which defines and shapes the strategy for user interaction research in aviation cockpits by driving deeper understanding of business needs as it aligns with current human-computer interaction programs and research.
